Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog and fourteen others were killed in police raids at San Roque Lawis and Baybay Santa Cruz last July 30, 2017.
According to the police chief of Northern Mindanao, Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb, the Criminal and Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) were simultaneously serving search warrants at 2:30 a.m. when they faced violent resistance from the family of the Mayor.
“The serving PNP personnel were met with volley of fire from their security prompting PNP personnel to retaliate,” Chief Supt. Pacleb said in a media statement.
According to reports, the other members slain were Susan Parojinog (wife of Ozamiz City), Octavio Parojinog Jr., Misamis Occidental Board member, Lydia and JR of Lumad TV, Miguel del Victoria, Nestor Cabalan, and Daniel D. Vasquez who were all civilian volunteer members.
Parojinog family are narco-politicians in Mindanao, Duterte said
Meanwhile, aside from the mayor’s house, police also raided Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog’s house, two of the Parojinog clan’s farms, and other properties, Pacleb said.
In addition, seven people were killed in the raid in Brgy. Baybay San Roque, while six people were killed in Brgy. Baybay Sta. Cruz.
Vice Mayor Nova Echaves, the daughter of Mayor Reynaldo has survived the gunfire. However, she was arrested and currently being investigated by the Misamis Occidental police office, according to Inquirer.
The vice mayor and her brother Reynaldo “Dodo” will be flown to Manila for inquest proceedings. Both were included in the search warrants, according to CNN.
The initial investigation shows that there are shabu, grenades, firearms, and cash from the houses owned by the mayor and his family members.
President Rodrigo Duterte has tagged the Parijinogs as among the narco-politicians operating in Mindanao. Reports said that they are one of the big suppliers of illegal drugs in Ozamiz City.
However, Mayor Parojinog and Vice Mayor Nova had repeatedly denied the President’s claim.
